Fall: National Park Opening Again

Once the national parks opened again we could enjoy our small boat launch close to our house . The dogs were SO excited. Beautiful weather, beautiful pictures.

Annie and Shelby loved it.

Fall: The Favorites of October

 I have a few plants and trees that I would recommend for every fall garden. They are hardy, always put on a beautiful show of color, and are easy to grow. I worked hard to get a mix of reds, yellows, and oranges. Of course there is still green hanging in there. Here is my list:

 Burning bush is one of my favorite shrubs for the year round, but especially fall.

 You can't miss with asters. They bloom every year and each stalk is like a bouquet.

 I am loving our red maple we purchased a few years ago. You can see it from the road. Red is such a perfect color for foliage in fall.

 Every garden needs "Autumn Joy" sedum. These have spread, grown taller, bloomed, and filled up a whole flower bed the last few years.

Our native grasses are lovely in fall when the leaves turn and the top tassels turn. I can't remember what kind of grass this is, but I love it!

Fall: Filling Up the Greenhouse

Everett moved the plants into the greenhouse a bit early this year. He must have known a frost was coming. We saved lots of blooming flowers and look forward to their beauty in those dark days of winter.

The table of herbs even came in this year!

Fall: Remembering Travels to The Last Resort

 Right before school started we had a relaxing week-end at a lovely vacation rental on the Clark Fork River in Idaho. I just realized I never shared any photos of the place.

It was just the right size, was situated right on the river, and was peaceful and picturesque. That week-end the weather was great also.

The porch was a great place for quiet reading.

I loved the view down the river.

We enjoyed a night out at the Floating Restaurant in Hope, Idaho.

It was hard to leave the last morning.

Fall: Mom's Bouquet

Mom has been able to still create bouquets at her house even though she hit with a frost. I love the unique patterns on the petals of these zinnias. Beautiful combination of colors.

Fall: On the Streets Where I Lived

Yesterday I did a photo tour of my hometown of Kellogg, Idaho. The leaves are just starting to turn on the tree lined streets  that I remember fondly from childhood. Heading up Depot Hill  I caught an image of the McConnell Hotel, which remains similar in appearance.  I love how the wires are still hanging high on the telephone poles.

Next I sat in the alley next to Mary Pavelich's house where we often played. I reflected back to when the low stone wall was built to the side of her house. As I looked up Maple Street I wondered how tall those trees were when I was six. They always seemed to be tall. I can see why the street was named Maple.

The first home I remember looks quite a bit different on the outside,but I could still picture my brother and I sitting on the front porch with Grandma West. I would love to see the inside.

Looking down Portland Hill the vivid red and orange leaves stood out from afar.

This tree was closer to my second home I lived at on Cameron Avenue.
