Remember December: A is for Advent

This month I will present my own ABC book called "Remember December" as I celebrate memories, traditions, recipes and songs of the holiday season.

A is for Advent: Advent (from the Latin word adventus, meaning "coming") is a season of the Christian church, the period of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus, in other words, the period immediately before Christmas. It is the beginning of the Western Christian year and commences on Advent Sunday. Wikipedia Encyclopedia

At the United Church in Kellogg, Idaho I remember an advent tradition involving advent candles and the church choir. Each Sunday of advent a candle was lit and as the choir entered the sanctuary each of those Sundays we sang a verse of O Come O Come Emmanuel. This advent song has been a favorite of mine since that time. Advent was culminated with the Candlelight Christmas Eve service. Here is one of my favorite versions of the carol:

  2. I love this idea of the using the alphabet! You are so good at keeping up with your writing every day. I don't know how you do it, but I sure enjoy it! Thanks for being an inspiration to a fellow teacher =)
