"Sisters, Sisters, There Were Never Such Devoted Sisters"

When I was back home in Kellogg last week my sister Silver Valley Girl and I spent her birthday night going through old pictures. We laughed and remembered events that took place sorting through the piles of pictures that long lost any sense of organization. The picture above is in Mom's backyard about forty years ago. The picket fence is long gone. The lilac bush has been moved and a deck has been built by the sidewalk. Smelter smoke kept the grass from growing much then, but now it is lush and green. Today my sister and I are back together with our brother Raymond Pert. We are enjoying an evening of visiting, looking at more scanned pictures, blogging, and conversation. One of our favorite songs is "Sisters" from "White Christmas". The lyrics are fitting as we enjoy an evening together:
"All kinds of weather,
we stick together
The same in the rain and sun
Two different faces,
but in tight places
We think and we act as one."
-Irving Berlin
You can see Silver Valley Girl's take on the evening here. You can also see that we have changed just a little bit!

  1. OH I LOVE THAT SONG!!!! My sister and I sing that together ... love love love love love... take care and happy happy HAPPY day today :)

  2. (Big meaningful sigh) I SOOOOO wish I lived closer to my sister -- although 6 hours is not all that far away -- getting our schedules to mesh is another story. I love the bittersweet feeling I get in my chest when I read your posts about your siblings. And I love that song as well!! :-D

  3. My mom, sister and I used to watch White Christmas together every year it was on, when we were growing up. My sister and I used to sing that song also. (Sometimes we still do.) Although I didn't buy many VHS tapes, the first one I bought was "White Christmas." I told my daughters that it was a family tradition to watch at Christmas time, and guess what? They all sing the song, now, too.

  4. I love reading your posts on your family growing up. You have such great memories. And what a neat thing - that your family shares as well.

  5. Sorry I aint been around, just life stuff.... but Im back....

I LOVE looking at your old photos.... I love reading about your family life and growing up...... I love it over here..... and I LOVE picket fences :)

Sounds like you had a great time with ya sister and MrP ....

  6. Thanks to all of you. I am amazed that the Sisters song connected with so many. We are fortunate to live close enough to spend time together.
Marmite: We almost had forgotten about that picket fence until we dug out the old pictures. I am like you. I love them. I bought a whole fence at a second hand store and we put it up in the back garden!!

I always enjoy reading comments!
