National Poetry Month, Poem #8: Happy Easter

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today
Verse 1
Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say: Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens and earth reply: Alleluia!
Verse 2
Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Dying once He all doth save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!
Verse 3
Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!
Verse 4
Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
Verse 5
Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!
-Charles Wesley
When I think of past Easter church services, the choir in my childhood church, and the services I will attend today this song is Easter to me.

  3. I would like to say I went to some beautiful location and found this cross, but alas I found it on Yahoo images... it was off a site of photographs, no lables. Great picture huh?

  4. I miss the Easter hymns at our church. The modern choruses are lovely and the words are wonderful, but I do love singing the hymns and miss it, especially around Easter. Christ the Lord is Risen Today!!! Alleluia!!

  5. Easter wouldn't be Easter without singing this hymn with our church family. It's one of my absolute favorites.
    Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia!
Glad you enjoyed your day. So did we.
